Kathryn Wells – Last year, my dad died in March and I spent half the year in South Carolina with him before, during, and after. And he was kind of the patriarch of our family. My mom had passed, my grandparents had passed, he had all the things at his house. I felt like I was supposed to go over everything one box at a time, and my, you know, well-meaning friends and family said, “Just have somebody pick it up.” I said, “I need to go through every single thing, touch every piece of paper.” He was an accountant, financial, so he had records for generations. And the last day that I was there, this took place over weeks and months, there was one box left in the garage and I thought, “Why have I done all this?” It was really good to see how my dad was like Jesus. He was the same yesterday, today, and forever. There was nothing that surprised me. It just showed how faithful he was. In that last box, I opened it up, it was full of things that had been my maternal grandfather’s, my mother’s father. He was a Shriner. It was the jewelry, it was the rings, it was the plaques. I had known that, but I didn’t have access to any of his stuff. A friend had, you know, shown me about the Freemasons’ Release for Family Members. We’d done that. I’d gone through that with my family, those who would do it. But that day, it was the day before I was supposed to leave, and I was like, “Lord, what do I do with all this?” He said, “You completely tear down the high places.” So I was there all by myself. There was not much left in the house, but I found one of my mother’s old clay pots, and I just kept dumping things in the clay pots and burning them. And the neighbors were peeking out going, “What is she doing?” But I burned and burned and burned until they were no more. And one month from that day later, my daughter and my son-in-law conceived, and Amelia was brought into the world. That was not all of it. Keith had prayed, other people had prayed for Katie and Erin, but I think that was a piece, and whatever it did are things that I probably don’t recognize or know at this point, but it liberated the bloodline and we completely destroyed that part.
